WELSH CHOIR SING TO HELP BLOOD CANCER CHARITY
A ‘Concert in the Square’ in aid of blood cancer charity Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research and Action Medical Research - for Children, for Life will take place on Saturday, March 6th, 2010 at the beautiful Georgian St Peter’s Church, Black Lion Lane, Hammersmith, London W6.
The programme will be headed by Cwmbach Male Voice Choir, one of the longest standing and best known choirs in Wales, and accompanied by tenor Marcel Xerri and mezzo soprano Sophie Gopsill. The choir will sing a varied repertoire of both classical and modern music including several special arrangements for the night.
Organiser Alun Watkin’s father sang with Cwmbach Male Voice Choir and all of the performers are donating their services free of charge.
Alun Watkins says: “My father, Glanddu, died very suddenly from leukaemia, ironically 32 years to the day that my cousin Malcolm died of the same disease as an 18 year old. The concert is my way of honouring their memory and of helping Leukaemia Research to find a cure for this terrible disease.”
The concert will begin at 7.30pm preceded by drinks which will be served from 6.30pm and pre-concert entertainment will also be provided.
Tickets are available and are priced at £15 each from Alun Watkins on 07789 511793 or Jo Cooper 07952 172641. Tickets can either be posted out to you or picked up at the door on the night of the concert. Cheques should be made payable to “Concert in the Square”.
All money raised will go directly to Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research and Action Medical Research - for Children, for Life with a proportion to the Royal Marsden Hospital. Anyone unable to attend the concert on the night are very welcome to make a donation, however small. Donations can be made by cheque made payable to “concert in the square” and sent to Concert in the Square, Saint Peter’s Church, Black Lion Lane, Hammersmith, London W6.
